Hebrew lessons

“Hebrew is a language that spans time and distance, but just like any other language, we believe anyone can learn it,” says teacher Yasmine Halevi on her website, hebrewforeveryone.ca.

“We welcome students from diverse backgrounds and religions – no background in Hebrew and/or Judaism is necessary. Our small and friendly classes combine our methods to help you learn everything from grammar patterns to everyday communication you can immediately put to use with your friends and family.”

Halevi is a translator and Hebrew copy editor who has been working with language most of her life. A native Hebrew speaker, she studied linguistics and cultural studies, and speaks a few languages that often allow her to meet students where they’re at. Her approach is grammatical because she believes it’s the best way to learn and identify patterns.

Currently, Halevi is offering three levels of classes, each $375 per 10-session term. Sessions are 90 minutes long.

Level 1 Beginner (Thursdays, 5:30 p.m., Or Shalom): Start here if you’ve never learned any Hebrew. You will learn to read, express common greetings and questions.

Level 2 Beginner-Intermediate (Tuesdays, 6 p.m., Peretz Centre): You learned Hebrew in the past and want to continue your journey. You will expand your vocabulary to be able to have basic interactions.

Level 3 Intermediate-Advanced (Thursdays, 7 p.m., Or Shalom): This class is for people who already read and speak some Hebrew and want to deepen their understanding.
