The New Westminster concert is the culmination of a BC tour that includes Oliver, Quadra Island, Duncan, Nanaimo, Salt Spring Island and Victoria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oktopus\u2019s eight virtuoso musicians meld various components of\u00a0classical, Quebecois and jazz repertoires. Their\u00a0distinctive music is undeniably rooted in the klezmer tradition, reflecting the\u00a0rich history of a thousand-year-old community, its persecutions and\u00a0celebrations, tears and laughter, or both at the same time. Musicians of\u00a0yesteryear incorporated in their repertoire the music they\u00a0encountered on their\u00a0journeys and, just like them, the members of Oktopus are inspired by the music\u00a0they hear throughout their own travels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Montreal-based Oktopus octet was formed in 2010\u00a0at the initiative of clarinetist Gabriel Paquin-Buki, creator of musical\u00a0arrangements and several original compositions. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/jewishindependent.ca\/blues-klezmer-at-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jewishindependent.ca\/blues-klezmer-at-mission<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After releasing its debut\u00a0album,\u00a0<em>Lever l\u2019encre<\/em>,\u00a0in 2014, Oktopus released\u00a0<em>Hapax\u00a0<\/em>in\u00a02017, which earned nominations as Instrumental\u00a0Album of the Year at the Juno\u00a0Awards and World Music Group of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.\u00a0For more on the ensemble, visit oktopus.ca.
