{"id":36441,"date":"2021-03-05T12:52:44","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T20:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jewishindependent.ca\/?p=36441"},"modified":"2021-03-04T22:42:05","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T06:42:05","slug":"anti-racism-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jewishindependent.ca\/index.php\/2021\/03\/05\/anti-racism-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-racism fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Olga Campbell is raising money for the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre\u2019s anti-racism programming.\u00a0<\/strong><strong><em>(photo from Olga Campbell)<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Half of all sales during March of Olga Campbell\u2019s multiple-award-winning <em>A Whisper Across Time: My Family\u2019s Story of the Holocaust Told Through Art and Poetry<\/em> will be donated to the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre\u2019s anti-racism programming, engaging youth and teachers in promoting human rights, social justice and genocide awareness. Campbell\u2019s goal is to raise $5,000. Her objective is to raise \u201cconcerns about the fragility of democracy and the rise of white nationalism, racism and antisemitism in the world today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In <em>A Whisper Across Tim<\/em>e, Campbell \u2013 whose mother lost all of her family during the Second World War \u2013 writes, \u201cThis is the story of one family out of millions of families who went through the Holocaust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As quoted in the <em>Jewish Independent<\/em> when the book was published in 2019, \u201cIt is \u2018the story of survival and death,\u2019 \u2018of how trauma of such magnitude is passed from one generation to another to another\u2026.\u2019 It is also an ardent call for readers to remember Rwanda, Rohingya, Bosnia, Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, Iraq, Cambodia.\u201d Campbell notes in the book that, \u201cby the end of 2016, there were 65.6 million refugees, asylum seekers and internally displaced people in the world.\u201d She pleads, \u201ceighty years ago, the world looked away \/ we must not look away now.\u201d (Read more at <a href=\"http:\/\/jewishindependent.ca\/a-story-told-in-art-and-poetry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jewishindependent.ca\/a-story-told-in-art-and-poetry<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/jewishindependent.ca\/whisper-across-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jewishindependent.ca\/whisper-across-time<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Campbell will be giving away five signed copies of her book.
