Top 10 trends for the season

With new design labels popping up everywhere it can be confusing to know what trends to follow. Whether you are feminine, in the corporate world or a laid back bohonista, this year’s fashion trends can work for all. Let’s have a look at the Top 10 trends to follow this season. Pick the ones that work for you and have fun with it!

Bold prints head to toe. Colorfully printed from head to toe is what it’s all about this season. Choose from polka dots, floral, zigzags and stripes. Look for abstract stripes that are either randomly placed or appear hand-brushed. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing prints head to toe, pair with either a solid top or bottom and you’re still on-trend.

Denim head to toe. Denim has come a long way in the past decade. It’s now acceptable to wear a denim jacket paired with a matching denim pant. These days, we have stretch, sparkle and synthetic blends incorporated straight into the fibres, giving more comfort and versatility. Colored denim jeans are really hot! Wear them rolled up with your favorite sneakers or flip flops.

Color blocking. Bold and bright is what’s hot this season. You’ll see bright poppy reds, oranges and yellows for the warmer tones; cobalt blues and malachite greens for the cooler tones. Look for tops and dresses blocked in sets of three colors featured with either black or white as the base. Also look for shoes with a colored toe-box in a ballet style or pump.

Circle or cropped tops. Silky, loose-fitting cropped tops with straight or circular hems are flattering on all body types. Look for arm-flattering elbow sleeve lengths that fall at the hip and pair them back to skinny pants or leggings.

High-low hems. A new look this season is uneven hemlines. You’ll notice in tops and dresses that they’re shorter in the front and longer in the back. This look is very figure flattering, as it just skims over your body. Fabrics are soft and drapey. It may not have hanger appeal but do give it a try.

Texture and lace. Add texture to your look by overlaying eyelet lace tops over brightly colored tees or tanks. Look for lace dresses and skirts in black, white or cream. Pair with ballet slippers or straw wedges.

Boho-chic. Add a touch of bohemian for a casual or weekend look. Luxurious washed silks, soft denim-like linens and slouchy knits in pastel blues and pinks. Floral-printed maxi dresses and tops give feminine, summery elegance. You’ll also notice a few brands coming out with yoga lines. Look for hoodies and jackets with more unconventional styling and asymmetric cuts.

Summer leather. Summer leathers are washed, extra light and buttery. Look for asymmetric zippers and sleeves with ponte inserts for extra comfort and a leaner look. Pair with a dress or a skinny pant.

Handbags. There is never a shortage of bags and shoes to complete your look. They come in every shape and size and suit every purpose. Classic satchels, totes and color-blocked shoppers give your look a quick update. For a fun summer feel, look for soft, supple boho styles in lamb leathers. Pair with large summer hats and a maxi dress for warm, summer days. Keep an eye out for convertible straps that easily go from shoulder to cross-body.

Shoes. Nude is the new black. Elongate your legs with a simple nude pump. Look for hidden platforms for added height without added incline. Braided straw espadrilles, colorful printed pumps, sparkle and mixed-media adorn the shelves of every shoe store this season. Add a wedge for a quick way to update your spring/summer wardrobe.
