Israel is a vacation destination, too

Letters

Editor: Some weeks ago, you published a special summer vacation edition reviewing a number of wonderful places, both within and outside of British Columbia, for readers of your paper to consider visiting over the summer (Bulletin, June 11). I must say that I was most surprised to see that in your several articles describing places of interest to visit there was not a single mention of Israel as a vacation destination. As someone who has lived in Israel for part of the year for many years, I can assure you that Israel contains many places equal to those described in your various articles. For example, for those looking for an interesting historic destination, nothing can equal Jerusalem, while for those seeking a beach holiday, surely the beaches of Netanya or Tiberius are equal to anything to be found anywhere in British Columbia. Furthermore, as for your article on the Napa Valley, certainly the wineries of the Golan are no less scenic.

Surely, now that terrorism against Israel has been almost completely defeated, with Israel having been successful at reducing it by more than 90 per cent due to a combination of the security fence and the courage of our Jewish brothers and sisters in combating terrorism, it is now time for the Jews of British Columbia to once again consider Israel as a prime vacation destination.
