Burquest has full slate

The community will soon kick off a capital campaign.

Ten women came out for the Burquest Jewish Community's first Community Kitchen Feb.4. Facilitated by Melissa Tapper from the Jewish Family Service Agency (JFSA), the women cooked, laughed, developed new friendships, then enjoyed a sit-down lunch together. During tea and dessert, menu planning for next month's Community Kitchen got started, in addition to planning for the Seniors Lunch program that begins in March. Future Burquest Community events include:

• A wine-tasting social event Feb. 22. Pre-registration is required.

• A Shabbaton with the White Rock Jewish Community Feb. 28 and March 1. The evening service will include the participation of Burquest children and the morning service will be led by Rabbi Yosef Wosk, followed by a potluck lunch. A learning session at 5 p.m. will be led by Rabbi Robert Daum and a catered dinner will follow. The program will end with Havdalah. Pre-registration is required.

• A capital campaign in March with the goal of raising enough funds to pay off the mortgage of the Burquest Community Centre. Wosk, Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver (JCC) executive director Gerry Zipursky and Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver executive director Mark Gurvis will speak at the JCC, March 27, 4-7 p.m., at a wine and cheese event sponsored by Wosk.
