Celebrating 80 years ... JWB 1991 Dr. Ruth visit

In this December 1991 photo, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, centre, is pictured with Devra Epstein, left, and Melanie Samuels, co-chairs of the Young Associates of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which brought Dr. Ruth to Vancouver as guest speaker for the Chanukah fundraising event, An Evening of EnLIGHTenment.

“Dr. Ruth’s size, at just over four feet, belied her energy and enthusiasm, as she enlightened the audience with her open and frank talk, punctured with humor, covering a range of subjects about sexuality, Judaism and Torah,” wrote Ariela Friedman in the article.

More than 350 turned out to hear Dr. Ruth, still a world-renowned sex therapist and author. A portion of the ticket price went towards a scholarship fund for Soviet and Ethiopian students.
